Our Cry: (Psalms 51:10-12)

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

His Promise: (John 14:16-18)

And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, so that He may be with you forever, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He dwells with you and shall be in you. I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.

His Warning: (Ephesians 4:30)

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you are sealed until the day of redemption.

Relevance: (Scofield)

No believer of this dispensation, aware of the promise of His abiding (Joh_14:16) should pray, "Take not Thy Holy Spirit from me." (Eph_4:30) but while Christian position is not found here, Christian experience in essence is.

Life Experience: (Barnes)

The language used here by David - “take not” - implies that he had been formerly in possession of that which he now sought. There was still in his heart that which might be regarded as the work of the Spirit of God; and he earnestly prayed that that might not be wholly taken away on account of his sin, or that he might not be entirely abandoned to despair.
